It actually saddens me when people say things like: “Oh no, it’s the scourge of the MMFF again”, or “I can’t wait for the MMFF week to end so I can watch a real movie”. I know for some MMFF has this bad rep of showing crappy movies, like the umpteenth rehash of Shake, Rattle and Roll, or the nth permutation of Enteng Kabisote partnering with the lead character of whatever Blockbuster Movie Hit he can partner with. But it’s sad when people dismiss it all together as a string of bad movies, without bothering to check out what’s being shown.
This year in particular, we have a healthy mix of movies: The Indie Stalwart Thy Womb, Cinematographic Eye Candy El Presidente, meant for laughs Sisterakas (the name grates the ears) and Sosy Problems, certainly a drama movie One More Try, Horror movie The Strangers and of course the staples Shake Rattle and Roll and Enteng Kabisote. For me, there’s probably one movie that someone’s bound to like, if only they’re not adamant thinking that everything shown in MMFF is crap. Just try watching an entry for once. If you didn’t like it, then by all means you have the right not to go near it again. (And don’t give me that argument that you don’t have to taste shit to know that it’s not edible, hay naku.)
